Spires Spires that in the Sunset Rise, female band now based in Wisconsin and previously in Chicago, have been noticed because of their experimental and mystical folk music not so far from Current 93, but with spellbinding incantations that can remind of The Raincoats or the first period of The Throwing Muses. Based on an eclectic orchestration including cello, banjo, bells and exotic instruments, their songs evoke dark and haunted musical spaces, which are sometimes strangely close to traditional music from Asia. To promote the release of their fourth album, “Curse the Traced Bird”, Spires that in the Sunset Rise, reduced to the duo Kathleen Baird-Taralie Peterson, are on tour in Europe and stop for two dates in France, including one at the Musicophages in Toulouse. An opportunity to ask them questions about this music as unfathomable as the bottom of a swamp.
